Climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies
Objective:
To generate evidence on the relationship between climate change and wildfires in order to inform policies and strategies for addressing loss and damage in Northern Patagonia.
The research, developed in partnership with the BASE Initiative—coordinated by Fundación Avina together with ProCLIM-AR and MapBiomas—found that the wildfire danger season is becoming progressively longer, now extending into late April, and that wildfire intensity has increased by 15–25% over recent decades.
Building on these findings, Fundación Alimentaris and AcercAR Civil Association launched a second phase focused on emergency risk communication. The project brought together scientists, wildfire brigades, communicators, and community organizations from the Andean Comarca to strengthen the circulation of reliable information before, during, and after wildfire events.
