Program:
Local Action
Objective:
Throughout 2025, Fundación Alimentaris, through its Comunidad SAS initiative, worked alongside leaders of six community kitchens in the General Paz neighborhood of Santiago del Estero. The project was implemented in partnership with the local branch of INTI (Argentina’s National Institute of Industrial Technology) and professionals from the National University of Santiago del Estero.
The initiative aimed to strengthen the capacities of people who cook in community settings by providing practical tools, technical knowledge, and skills to promote healthy, sustainable, and culturally appropriate food.
The project included training on safe food handling, nutrition, and foodborne disease prevention, as well as participatory workshops designed to encourage peer learning, exchange experiences, and strengthen community networks.
Beyond improving food practices, the initiative addressed multiple dimensions of community food systems: enhancing the nutritional quality of meals, improving working conditions in community kitchens, recognizing and valuing the knowledge of community cooks, and fostering collaboration among organizations facing shared challenges.
The project demonstrated that when technical knowledge is combined with community experience, it is possible to build healthier communities, strengthen social ties, and create lasting collective impact.
